Mission and objectives
UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide.UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide. Context
UN Women Programme Office in Tajikistan is looking for fully funded Volunteer with social media and communication backgrounds and expertise to promote UN Women Programme Office in Tajikistan work via social media platforms and to increase visibility in an effort to raise awareness and to engage with different stakeholders such as policymakers, civil society, general public and the donor community.Following Afghanistan takeover by Taliban, in December 2021, Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund initiated discussion with UN Women country offices within the Afghani-stan Regional Response Initiative to promote socio-economic recovery, participation and leadership of Afghan women and young women in forced displacement within Afghanistan and in the neighbouring countries of Pakistan and Tajikistan. There are more than 10,000 registered and unregistered Afghan refugees in Tajikistan. Women and children represent 68% of the refugee population. In accordance with the different information sources (NGOs, small surveys conducted by women-Afghans themselves and meetings with the refugees, etc.) it is obvious that there is a strong need to assist Afghan women, especially those who lead households with a broad range of support and assistance (income-generating activities, health, hygiene, childcare, GBV prevention, etc.).UN Women coordinates the activities of national partners implementing this initiative. The project is focused on peacebuilding and recovery and to fostering economic and social resilience of Afghan Refugees especially women and girls and create socially integrated com-munity mechanisms. Professional and business trainings for refugee women to start new small businesses; classes on digital literacy and English/Russian language; services regarding reproductive health and gender-based violence (psychological counselling, health checks, supply of first aid medicines etc); and trainings on local laws/legislation on business and women' rights/refugee's rights.To convey key messages, light up the achieved results, and better communicate with the tar-get audience, key stakeholders and donor community the Office is looking for qualified Communications specialist to develop communication strategy for mapping out the organization activities and programmes that not only help it engage with key stakeholders (internal and ex-ternal) in an effective and streamlined way, but also help reach the organization’s core objectives.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Head of UN Women Programme Office in Tajikistan, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:• Develop and implement a communication strategy that includes media outreach and social media content creation.• Research and write press releases, and content for the entity website, infographics, blogs, and newsletters.• Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the organization policies, principles, and strategies, and keep up to date with relevant developments.• Arrange and coordinate and plan both separate and joint events with other UN sister agencies and partners.• Facilitate the resolution of disputes with external role-players.• Adhere to the company’s style guide, ensuring that we produce a high-quality and error-free copy.• Work with key internal role-players to brainstorm content ideas, in line with the organization communication strategy.• Support and evaluate results of communication campaigns with the team.• Build and maintain relationships with journalists and key external role-players.
