Mission and objectives
The UNICEF Office for the Eastern Caribbean Area works across 12 countries and territories: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos Islands. The Office is based in Bridgetown Barbados, without-posted personnel in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Castries, St Lucia.UNICEF works with governments and other partners to ensure that countries fulfill their commitments made in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child that every child can grow and develop to reach their full potential.
Context
This UNV assignment is part of UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Operation/ICT Section focused on using, teaching and applying UNICEF’s ICT resources, tools and innovation to advance user knowledge, apply technology to improve and simplify operational efficiency and effectiveness, and supporting UNICEF ECA office expansion across the sub-region.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of ICT Associate, the National UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:• Installing/upgrading, configuring (routine, standard) and maintaining systems, tools and equipment;• Providing tier-one ICT user support/troubleshooting;• Setting up of hardware on- and off-site across the sub-region;• Knowledge sharing and training staff individually and in groups;• Supporting / troubleshooting on special projects;• Providing on-the-job orientation for users in the use of ICT systems;• Providing first-level support that includes receiving, processing and logging service requests;• Managing lifecycle of ICT incidents assigned to him/her in service management tool;• Providing support in conferencing with ICT and audiovisual equipment as and when requested;• Maintaining ICT inventory, manuals, and other documentation. This may require the incumbent to lift, move, mount, or store equipment;• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor;• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.Results/Expected Outputs:• UNICEF ECA users are fully functioning in accordance with UNICEF ICT hardware and software standards;• Users have expanded capacity through robust trainings and on the job tutorials in UNICEF’s suite of ICT resources and tools;• Users are operational in the application of Service Gateway for ICT support;• UNICEF workspaces are functional to support a flexible work environment supplemented by hot desks;• Innovation is applied consistently to simplify routine operational and governance tasks to improve office efficiencies across the sub-region;• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
