Mission and objectives

OCHA’s overall goal in Ukraine is to ensure the delivery of effective and principled humanitarian action that meets the needs of the most vulnerable people. To achieve this, OCHA supports the Humanitarian Coordinator and humanitarian partners in operational coordination, humanitarian financing, public information, humanitarian analysis, advocacy and Information Management. In its effort to help alleviate the suffering of the affected population and respond to some of the long-term consequences, OCHA established a presence in Kyiv shortly after the outbreak of the crisis in 2014. Today, OCHA’s 40 plus staff in Kyiv and in its four operational hubs in Kramatorsk and Sievierodonetsk (GCA) and Donetsk and Luhansk (NGCA) work together to support the coordination of humanitarian assistance of international and national organizations.

Context

The position is located in the in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Ukraine. OCHA is part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Information Management Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Information Management Associate: • Supports UN OCHA and the United Nations system, as well as partner organizations to establish and prepare information products to facilitate coordination of- and advocate for- the humanitarian response in Ukraine, and delivery of the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC), including support to the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund; • Provides Graphic Design support in the development of information products, including reports, one-page snapshots, presentations standalone info-graphics, and online products. • Supports strategic and operational decision-making by processing and analyzing data on the humanitarian situation and response, for the purpose of data visualization; • Supports the management and visualization of content in the main CMS platforms for the response, including ReliefWeb.Response and Humanitarian Action. • Maintains good relationships with the various entities to promote strong client engagement, data sharing and transparency; • Develops strong links with Information Management focal points in other organizations to help clusters to identify their priority information requirements and to promote coordination and information sharing among organizations; • Works closely with IM team, UNOCHA staff and humanitarian partners to promote information product design standards; • Supports in maintaining a catalogue of coordination products, including meeting schedules, contact lists and related information products; • Produce articles and presentations on UNV, UN Volunteer success stories; • Any other related tasks that may be required or assigned by the supervisor. As an active OCHA team member, efficient, timely, responsive, and client-friendly support rendered to OCHA and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • High-quality OCHA information products, including reports, snapshots, presentations, and other standalone info-graphics; • Consistent graphical design and branding of all products in accordance with global- and country-level standards, guidelines and best practice, including static and online products such as Power BI dashboards; • High-quality publications such as Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, periodic monitoring reports, as well as other supporting products for the Humanitarian Programme Cycle; • Content on ReliefWeb.Response and Humanitarian Action is up-to-date and rendered according to global- and country-level standards; focal points for managing content in ReliefWeb.Response are trained and supervised in the management of content.
