Your challenge as a senior System Designer
You develop the architecture of the system or subsystems, define and allocate requirements, define technical design solutions by evaluating design choices and technical risks, define and evaluate interfaces, maintain close coordination with activities verification and validation and project deployment activities, in accordance with the system/subsystem roadmap.
You provide all the necessary support to the System Leader for technical analysis and responses to the specific needs of the project.
Signalling System
Alstom has been one of the main players in the development and implementation of the ERTMS train protection system for the European railways with solutions on the Betuweroute, Hanzelijn and the corridor Amsterdam-Utrecht. It has also equipped more than 180 trains with this ERTMS solution.
In terms of urban signaling, Alstom has implemented a full CBTC system (Urbalis) for the Amsterdam metro (North/South line and Ring line), a complete signaling system for the Rotterdam metro, as well a tram signaling system In Utrecht with the Uithoflijn.
Key accountabilities
•Develop system documents, including plans, specifications and other technical documents.
•Apply System Engineering processes.
• Ensure that the system technically meets the defined needs and that an appropriate systems engineering approach is followed.
•Ensure technical consistency and alignment with other design teams of other systems or products / or / project engineering teams throughout development, providing technical support to Verification & Validation, Quality , Reliability Availability Maintainability and security analysis.
• Minimize, by design, the cost of system deployment, delays and risks.
•Prepare and organize/participate in design reviews.
•Contribute to system configuration activities, requirements management activities.
• Ensure that the system follows a standardization approach by reusing existing solutions or implementing reusable solutions, and by providing an effective system deployment kit (tools, user documentation, etc.) for the generic system/product.
• Support feedback on the system and design from the Verification & Validation teams
• Contribute to the definition and updating of System Baselines, analyze and implement modification requests (change requests)
•Provide support to external stakeholders of the Program/Projects (Clients, Users, Calls for Tenders) and participate in QCD estimation.
• Understand and apply System Development engineering methods and contribute to continuous improvement (Feedback, updating processes, etc.).

Your colleagues
You will mainly work within small projects teams. Each long-term project will have a core team with other System Designers, Project Technical Manager, Project Engineering Manager, V&V engineers and you. You will report to Neill Sweet (Engineering Team Leader).
