Position Summary:
Designs, reviews, and validates components and assemblies for powertrain systems according to internal and customer requirements. Products to be developed and supported include but are not limited to electrified and combustion type powertrain systems, lock-up and disconnect clutches, hydrodynamic circuits, torsional dampers, bearings, and other electrical and powertrain related components.
Position Responsibilities:
• Perform product design activities according to internal and external specifications, and ISO16949 QMS requirements based on defined project work packages.
• Creates and maintains CAD and engineering data / documents on an intermediate level.
• Supports and completes release activities and related processes of engineering documents.
• Leads and supports investigations on deviations to the product design requested from production locations providing solutions and usage proposals to the assigned approver.
• Analyzes and supports the part and material vendors utilizing design analysis techniques where and when applicable.
• Analyzes and optimizes automotive components for geometry and material selection per internal and external requirements where applicable.
• Directs and coordinates the transfer of data between suppliers, customers, and inter-company departments having frequent verbal and written communication to those involved.
• Ensures the functionality and reliability of components through design and testing projects.
• Provide input from DFMEA to PFMEA activities
• Develop designs which correspond to applicable design guidelines using the appropriate design tools and various calculations.
• Supports design and verification activities including creation of BOM’s, drawings, calculations, and change requests.
• Supports coordination of test activities
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Provides input to lessons learned and ensures on-time closure of related actions
• Ensures departmental compliance with all Quality Management System policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned
Essential Skills and Experience:
• B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
• Minimum 3 years of professional employment and experience in automotive powertrain components (includes co-op and internships)
• Experience using Creo, and / or other similar CAD software platforms
• Advanced user skills in Microsoft Office applications, SAP, APQP, GD&T standards
• Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
• Advanced English reading, written and verbal communication skills
• Uses advanced networking skills with other departments within the company
• Ability / willingness to travel domestic or international (up to 10%)
Preferred Skills and experience:
• Component design experience within the automotive industry
• 5+ years of experience as a product engineer or Design Engineer within a powertrain development and/or manufacturing environment (specifically within automotive industry)
• CAE experience
• Advanced understanding of automotive powertrain systems and architecture
• Spanish and/or German Language Skills

Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the associate is exposed to an engineering lab atmosphere while performing daily work in an office environment. The engineering lab includes a machine shop, where the associate is exposed to potentially hazardous equipment and moderate to high noise levels, both requiring the use of protective equipment to ensure the safety of the associate.
